[Video Tips] FIX Open Mirillis Action Files in Video Editor!

Fri Sep 20, 2013 8:10 am

Hi all,

After read many posts about problems opening Mirillis Action files in video editors like Vegas, Premiere, Virtualdub...I decided to create a post showing how to fix it.

Here go:
1 - Download LAV FILTERS.
2 - Install it.
3 - Opening your files in any editor.

Only this. Too easy.

My Suggestions:
To Edit: Sony Vegas 11/12
To Cut MP4 files: Videoredo 4
To Encode AVi files: Ripbot264

If someone has problems with LAV Filters can also install FFDSHOW that works.

Any doubt, reply.

Cool, thanks for sharing! I guess installing the popular k-lite codec pack will work too, as it contain LAV filters. I use that one and never faced importing issues. :)

No solution. VLC dont support 3rd filters like LAV filters and dont render FICV files.

FFMPEG encoders has same problem because this my suggetions in above post.

To play FICV files, MPC-HC or PotPlayer or KMPlayer are best.

As I am understanding this right, VLC is non-supporting some vfw/DS codecs in first place and therefore cannot recognize the FICV codec.
Explaining 3rd filters in another way, VLC only use codecs installed internally (build-in). Any external codecs installed on your pc, like the LAV filters, will so neither work together with the VLC player.

I've had this problem a while ago, and unfortunately this didn't help. But I've found a solution in an unexpected place, thread which title complains about a different problem.
Because I doubted anyone will see it there (not even sure how did I stumbled there), I tried pointing out to it in a 2-3 threads (on this forum) which popped up when I googled about my problem, hoping people would find solution easier, but my posts needed to be approved by moderator, which never happened for some reason.

Anyway, hopefully this one gets approved. Here is the solution that worked for me:

"After more research I have found a solution, it appears to be a problem with Sony Vegas 12 (most likely 10 or higher).

So if you are having problems loading mp4 files into Sony Vegas and the video does not show up, simply do this:

1) Go to where Sony Vegas is installed and go to \App\Sony\Vegas Pro 12.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\compoundplug\..
2) Rename compoundplug.dll to compoundplug.dll.old or simply remove it."

Guy that posted this solution is named RedCat on this forum.
