Intel Quick Sync fps issues

Mon Sep 09, 2013 4:21 am

I was trying the quick sync feature in battlefield 3 and it usually cuts my fps in half. I get an average of 80 fps on ultra-high settings, but when I record, it drops to around 40 fps.
Is it supposed to affect your fps this much or is something wrong?

My build :
Intel i5 3570k
HD 7870
Asrock extreme 4 motherboard
Windows 7

I am using the video format "MP4 (Intel Quick Sync)"
My record frame rate is set to 60 fps
This issue happens in both 720p and 1080p

my FPS is also affected, but only slightly = 10% maybe...

I normally get 60+ fps (depending on how many players and what level is being played)

But i've chosen to record in 30fps given the quality is higher, takes less HDD space and that Youtube downgrade 60fps to 30fps anyway...

Dont get mistaken by the red Action FPS counter... the video IS 60 fps, but your gamings FPS might get lower than 60 without much effect...

Please also make sure that you've picked all the correct drivers and version of software needed ..
i get the best performance with :

Intel iGPU driver version 3071
Virtu MVP xxx224
Newest AMD 7970 drivers

i havent tested different versions of Action - but i guess 1.14 is the best version so far - people seem to complain over the newer ones.

btw.. The main problem with QuickSync is that some CPU performance and/or bandwidth to CPU is lost when using QuickSync or OpenCL ... I belive that all problem we face when recording with Action, is caused by the CPU bottleneck.

Also -- being able to render 100FPS before starting to record will help greatly - since the perf hit wont be noticed until you get lower FPS than 60... So try lowering your Quality in BF3 .. .some settings are VERY expensive but doesn't add much gfx value ...
