Why isn't TrueHD supported ?

Fri Oct 21, 2011 5:47 pm

I recently tried to play a movie with truehd and had no audio. And also for dts-hd ma plays only core on pc. Not using spdif.

Ghost - correct me if I'm wrong.

To my understanding, it does 'handle' truehd, in the sense that it will playback on a device that can handle truehd and is being output by either s/pdif, digital coax, or hdmi. The attached device then decodes the audio, and then plays it back.

Splash however, cannot TRANSCODE the audio on the fly (decode it, write it to a different format and output in that format), like some media players can. Because TRUEHD does not contain a -core like DTS-MA tracks do, it will not even play back on a stereo output setting.

Hopefully that helps.
