Splash 2.0

Fri Jan 22, 2016 9:30 pm

It was a long time for Splash update.
Unfortunately, the new version in terms of HD (1080p) decoding didn’t bring anything new in the most important issues after 3 yars of waiting.

The main disappointments:

1. The lack of any improvement in the fluidity of the algorithm motion2 for Windows 7 and above. (In Windows XP it is even worse than in version 1.13.2.0)

2. The fictional TV tuner support (no specification info’s about supported TV tuners)
The program is suspended immediately after going to the Watch TV (both XP and Win7)
3. No support for subtitles inside VOB files.
4. Lack of FLV support.

What I expect besides above (Make it even as paid option)

1. Support for quite popular already 21: 9 displays.
2. Full scaling - horizontal and vertical expansion and panning (like in DVBViewer Pro )
3. Holding the cursor < > give scrolling effect of time on the counter at a three different speeds (initially 1min / s - after 3 seconds - 5min / s - after a further 3sec - 10 minutes / sec)
It is not necessary to have a live preview.
Currently, it skips to the beginning of the movie very often when pushing the cursor too fast.
4.H.265/HEVC support
5.Specification info about minimal System Requirements to get a fluid 4K (does motion2 supports 4K or only HD)

Regards
Greg

Although I am having issues with Splash 2.0, and I do agree with you that it is a beta product (currently cannot access Settings for example)

But, most of your points are pretty stupid...

What exactly are you wanting improved? How are you measuring "Fluidity"? Do you even have a 60+FPS screen?
greg7 wrote:4. Lack of FLV support.
FLV is dead. Download flash if you really want to play it....
greg7 wrote:1. Support for quite popular already 21: 9 displays.
It supports every display, maybe not every video format ratio, but every monitor....

I just tried the new Splash 2 player. The Interface graphics SUCK! Can't stand viewing anything unless your in the full screen mode to get rid of the big bright contrasting red play buttons constantly distracting you. Just crappy cheap looking overall interface graphics. Looks like some type of cheap gamer's look to it. The original Splash blue graphics were great. Smooth, sleek, professional and non-distracting. I must admit, I can't see any differences in quality. Never needed a playlist, but I will be watching reviews for the supposedly better subtitle playback. The original splash player was real limited with this. I got to point where I would only play any movies with subtitles on VLC player because the Splash player always seemed like it would never play them. VLC player now has a Subtitle speed control to go along with the normal offset adjustments. I think Splash 1 was designed only for blue ray subtitles or something, I don't know. No plans now or any good reason to upgrade to Splash 2.

I too just tried Splash 2 and quite shocked. Interface become worse and this is probably the only noticeable change. Two things, which always bothered me are still out there!

Subtitles offset still limited to 5 secs

Why? WHY?! Have you ever heard, that subtitles delay may pile up and in the middle of the episode you may have offset more that 5 secs?

No HTML support in subtitles

There was a complain about this like FIVE YEARS AGO!!! FIVE FRIGGIN YEARS! It is THAt hard to add such a simple feature?

Dear developers, considering all this and the above reports from other Splash 2 users, will you also release a new update every 1-1.5 years, like it was with Splash Pro? I really don't understand, why you completely ignore this product of yours.

Sorry, saw this Thread only just recently...so I'm posting, what I already posted in another Thread. :) :

Exactely P.J, but don't forget VP9 10bit ;)
(http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p ... ost1754269).

And also REAL 4k (4096x2160p) support, not only Ultra HD-1 (3840x2160p) and not only 30fps.
http://joumxyzptlk.de/index.html

Also I would like to see an option for playback in Videospeed x2 or more.
As long as all these options doesn't exist, Splash 2.0 is absolutely uninteressting for me,
since I discoverd PotPlayer(Portable) in November 2015. :D

Thnx for the tip on PotPlayer. Just downloaded and it seems pretty decent replacement to Splash. Will stick for it right now.

MPC-BE (Media Player Classic - Black Edition) can play everything, including 4K at 60fps.
