Nice Player, but Motion2 is juddering

Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:12 pm

Hello,

Motion2 is juddering on my PC, videos are not totally fluent. CPU Usage is at 50%. Playing VOBs with WinDVD Trimension the upcaling to 59 Hz (which have my monitor) works perfect. So I think it's not my hardware, but perhaps the code algorithm of Slash Pro.

I buyed the Pro Version after release because I want to support the developers. I know the product isn't perfect now. But I hope there are coming quickly updates to make us all happy.

Greetings from Germany,
Ralf

InterVideo licensed Philip's DNM and had 6 years to improve it ;). But this is mirillis first attempt and they are off to an excellent start :D . Once the GPU version is released, we'll then see its true potential.

PS: It doesn't seem to work well with 25p source atm, but mirillis did state that its optimized for 24p.

Yes you're right, it's a very good start for Splash Player. Mirillis is doing good work. I hope the GPU support will be implemented fast. I like fluent Motion2.

And, yes I only use 25p source, not 24p.

Hello Ralf,

First of all thank you very much for your support and valuable feedback.
I have already posted some more info about Motion2 update in another topic to Nielo TM but let me post it here too.

Currently we are working hard on the Motion2 engine and expect a significant quality improvement in the Splash PRO software update scheduled for July 2010. The first update will include the following improvements:
- less artifacts
- better processing of high velocity motion scenes
- improved static in video text/subtitles processing
- significant performance improvements

Work is also under way to support mixed interlaced/progressive video sequences in Motion2 (currently Motion2 has to be disabled "by hand" for interlaced content and we hope to fix this inconvenience ASAP).

And last (but not least), Motion2 will get some heavy turbo-charging using nVidia CUDA / ATI Stream in the near future...

Thanks again!

I love motion interpolation in 1080p24 films ( and I had been using it for an year with an avisynth script ) so Motion2 was the main reason for me to try Splash Pro. I like it but, at moment, it makes the image too soft ... why ???
I dont like too use detailboost to compensate that since it seems to add false contouring ( wich I hate ).

Looking forward for the July update to fix the softness of motion2 and then I'll buy the player ( hope before trial ends )
:)

If you want a benchmark for motion2 try "The Dark Knight" ( the 2 guys on the rope at the start of the movie )

Return to “Splash PRO”
