Splash Pro Crashes on Windows 8

I've got a new Dell Inspiron, I7 processor with a Radeon GPU. I downloaded the Trial version (I have the full version on another computer, a Windows 7 unit, but lost my code for the new computer).

What I'm noticing on the new computer with the trial version is that AVCHD clips play fine as they do on my other computer. However every time I try to access the clip list from the SD card, the program crashes with a notice that "Splash Pro has stopped working". Yet I can play one clip after another when setting the playback to do this automatically. It's only when I try to call up the SD card file list that the program crashes.

I noticed this same behavior on a Sony, Windows 8 computer.
