Splash Pro no longer playing .ts files

Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:40 am

I currently have Splash Pro 1.11.0.0 installed. The problem I am having is that splash does not play .ts files anymore correctly. I record these files from my Tv tuner. And they use to work fine before. However recently when I record and play any .ts file, splash does not play it. The player launches, and it shows a big speaker icon in the main window. I can hear the sound, however it does not show any video. If i press the information key, here is what it shows.

Stream type: MPEG2 Transport Stream
Video type: not available
Video framerate: not available
Video bitrate: not avaiable
Audio type: AC3(5.1,48000Hz)

I have recorded a 60 second sample .ts file from my tuner and uploaded to a online file locker. Its a 125 Megabtye file. The link is:

I can play the file using other players such as VLC but not splash pro. Please let me know how I can resolve this problem.

Hi,

I don't have a solution but I can offer a work-around. If I have a recorded .ts that Splash won't play (around 1:50 of my recordings suffer from this problem) I run it through the freeware program MPEG2Repair.

I downloaded your sample & Splash gave me the same error it gives you. Then I ran it through MPEG2Repair & Splash could play the repaired file.

Phil.

I also have Mpeg2repair. It does work for a few of the files, but not for most of them. Since other programs such as VLC can play the file correctly with no problems, I hope Splash could also. One of the reasons I use Splash is because it has all the features like detail boost and picture2 that other programs like VLC just don't have. Can Splash pro be updated or patched so it will still play files even if there was an error in it. If other players can, i am sure splash can be updated to play them also.

It does work for a few of the files, but not for most of them.
Hmm... that's a shame. I have a 100% success rate whenever I need to use it.

The first filedropper link still works. But I have uploaded the test file to another hosting if you guys are having trouble getting it from filedropper. The second link is:

well I guess my response is a little bit too late but..whenever I have issues with a file format I just choose to convert it. I know that ts files aren't supported by too many players but if you convert them to a more popular format, then things are much simpler. And if I may, I can suggest Audials Moviebox for that :D It's what I am using for this kind of things.

But I didn't convert. Re-encoding is the worst way ;)
