Glitchy playback when seeking

Mon Jul 02, 2012 8:39 pm

Is Splash Pro EX not compatible with Radeon HD 7xxx series graphics cards?
If I play HD quality videos(720 and 1080) with hardware acceleration(ATI Avivo) enabled, the video is really glitchy/pixelated for anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds if I skip forward or backward in the video. If I let the video play all the way through, it's completely fine.
Here's a screenshot http://i.imgur.com/6ewAw.jpg
If I turn off hardware acceleration, the problem doesn't happen.
Also, this didn't happen with my Nvidia graphics card, GTS 250.
It only started happening after I installed my new Radeon graphics card.
The exact model of the graphics card is XFX Radeon HD 7950 Double Dissipation.
There is no driver conflict issue because I formatted my hard drive.
My CPU is i5-3570k.

Thanks.

I'm having the exact same issue and I hope that someone could help me.

A few days ago I had my Crucial M4 SSD Drive removed and replaced with a Western Digital Caviar Black Hard Drive and then reinstalled Windows 7.

Sine then I'm getting the distortion in movies when switching to different scenes. I never had this issue when I had my Crucial M4 SSD Drive. Here's my current PC's Specs. (The only component that's changed is the hard drive)

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz 36 °C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8Z68 DELUXE (LGA1155) 60 °C
Graphics
LED Cinema (1920x1200@60Hz)
AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (ATI AIB) 43 °C
Hard Drives
488GB Western Digital WDC WD5002AALX-00J37A0 (SATA) 34 °C
2930GB Hitachi Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 ATA Device (SATA) 38 °C
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH12LS38

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thats a known issue when playing heavy encoded x264 mkvs with crazy settings over hardware acceleration...

I think that situation dont happen with every mkv`s u play through Hardware acceleration, right?

I had the same problem with some heavy settings encoded mkv`s, usually fine with Hardware acceleration off and maybe if u had a nvidia card it won`t happen, because CUDA is different than dxva...

Sometimes is a driver problem, be sure u have the last driver from the brand your graphic card is (The brand is not ATI, could be MSI or asus etc etc). Go to their website and download the drivers they provide

I solved that problem with my HD5770 cucore, sometimes even with a perfect mkv dxva compliant the problem happened, but with asus drivers problem went away...

But, if i put a 10 ref frames 1080p playing through hardware acceleration, problems happen anyway... and same for 720p with 13 ref frames or more...

Not sure if HD7xxx have somekind of upgarde in dxva rules over HD5xxx but i doubt...

I appreciate the response.

What doesn't make sense though is that I never had this issue when I had my Crucial M4 SSD. I played many movies and never had this distortion.

The issue began After I switched out my Crucial M4 SSD for the Western Digital Caviar Black Drive and reinstalled Windows 7 as well as all of the drivers.

I'm using the same Video Card drivers from the same place that I got them before (AMD)

I have Windows 7 64 bit on my older PC (3 years old) and don't have this issue on any movies that I play.

I don't get this issue on my older PC even if I copy the same movie that had distortion from my new PC when played and transfer it to my older PC and play it.

I had Windows 7 64 bit on my new PC when I had a Crucial M4 SSD and never had this issue.

This issue began very recently after I switched out the Crucial M4 with a WD Caviar Black drive and reinstalled Windows 7 and all of my drivers.

I installed all of the Motherboard drivers from the Asus website and Video Card drivers from AMD.

Perhaps there was a Windows update or graphics card update that triggered this because a few of us just began having this issue.

try one thing m8, remove ati graphic card and install your cpu own intel graphic card and see if hardware acceleration broadcom crystal HD works... if yes u can say problem is on ati gpu, if not, problem is somewhere else, at least u exclude one cause...

With your setup many things can go wrong...too many "wonderful" things on your motherboard can screw simple things...

Ah, not sure if your motherboard has any pci-e primary slot, or both equal, try to change ati gpu to the other slot...

u must try everything...

I had one big problem with ati gpu, now solved, which was the video got squares when it should be grain...in some grainy movies... Problem was on catalyst... had to put gpu scaling on and mantain aspect ratio checked and problem solved...

so when it comes to ati gpus, u can`t be wrong, problem is somewhere on catalyst
