Splash 1.0.5 crashes/freeze when I enable Hardware acceleration for 1080p MKV with 16 reference frames
I really hope next version will address this issue :|

Lite 1.1 should be released today.
The problem with MKVs 16ref frames is fixed and Lite 1.1 will switch to software video decoding automatically.

We are happy to announce that Splash Lite 1.1 is now available :)
We recommend to uninstall previous version of Splash Lite before installing version 1.1.

Changes:
* New H.264 software decoding core. New v2.0 decoding core includes optimizations for Intel SSSE3 extensions and is up to 30% faster than v1.0.
* Improved H.264/AVC video start up time (in software decoding mode)
* Fixed playback of unindexed MKV videos
* GPU video decoding improvements on nVidia GPUs (decoding of 1920x1080 H.264 video streams with more than 5 reference frames)
* GPU video decoding improvements on Intel and ATI GPUs
* LPCM audio in VOBs support
* Support for files with more then 6 audio tracks
* EcoMode tab added to Splash settings (limited functionality in Splash Lite)
* Field coded VC-1 video decoding support
* Desktop shortcut drag'n'drop support
* TV Tuner initialization improvements
* Screensaver management improvements

Happy New Year everyone!

happy new year! and thank you for the new improved version!

although I'm a little confused by this:
Ghost wrote: * GPU video decoding improvements on nVidia GPUs (decoding of 1920x1080 H.264 video streams with more than 5 reference frames)
when I play 1080p H.264 (High@L5.0 / L5.1) file with 9 & 16 reference frames, splash fallback to software decode. while its better this way than just crashing/freezing, it still wouldn't allow GPU decoding for all files.
however, (L4.1) with 9 reference frames, or even 720p (main@5.0) with 8ref, for example, are GPU decoded just fine.

if i'm not mistaken, the (high@L5.0) 9 reference frames file I tested has been successfully GPU accelerated with previous version (1.0.5).

this is all very confusing as there are many kinds of encodes. most are GPU accelerated, not all.
I should note that ATI do not support HW acceleration for out of blueray specifications (L4.1) decoding at all,
haven't had the chance to check them out with splash yet...

anyhow, I really appreciate your efforts and improvements for us free users !
I just wish every single MKV would decode on GPU, so this headache is gone once and for all :)

Excellent work,guys!I have some m2ts file which cannot decode any player i tried(KMP,MPC,POT,Cyberlink,nero and more-black picture,only sound).Splash 1.0.5 played only half with stutter.Splash 1.1 plays it completely without any problems!
Happy new year!and thank you!

nice work but i still cant change the aspect ratio, seeking works now much better but without the aspect control its still useless. i hope you will fix this in time.

edit :

in some videos mkv videos with ac3 audio 320 bit / 640 bit there is no audio to hear

A couple of questions:

1) The Lite product only has 10 second seeks. Is there any way to change this to a different length or define a second set of keys that will do 30 or 60 second seeks?

2) When you are in full screen mode and you seek, there is no indication on the screen as to where you are in the time line. If it could pop up the current time pointer and the maximum file time it would be GREAT!

3) Why is "Start Full Screen" grayed out in the settings and cannot be selected?

This is an excellent product. I'm looking forward to the upcoming enhancements.

Thanks!
Chuck

This problem will be fixed in v1.2 soon. Please note that 16 reference frames for 1080p content will be supported only on nVidia and Intel GPUs. Another requirement is a minimum of 256MB VRAM.
