Nvidia Optimus Support

Sat Jul 31, 2010 9:31 am

Hi Mirillis,

First of all, great job on your splash player. I've enjoyed testing the hardware acceleration of free version on my nvidia ion based htpc.

Recently, I got a Nvidia optimus enabled laptop, the alienware m11x r2. I was expecting the same sort of seamless use that I got on my lesser powered htpc. Unfortunately, Splash only seems to use hardware acceleration of the intel graphics adapter in this laptop, instead of using the much more powerful nv gt335.

I realize that using the discrete video card will use more energy on my laptop, however, I am also interested in perfect playback and performance at certain times. Perhaps you can allow the user to choose which graphics card can be used for HW acceleration.

thanks,

-m

hi,

i have a Eee PC 1215N with nVidia Optimus ION2 and Splash only detects Intel when it's forced by nvidia control panel, is that what you do?

the strange issue in here, if a force splash to use ION2, and dont check the intel HW, the NVckecker says ION is ON, but the movie plays bad... in fullscreen very slow..

maybe drivers related? i'm using 260.63 beta BTW.

Hi, I was about to purchase an ION2/Optimus netbook to use specifically to play HD movies on my tv with Splash Pro.

But If I understand correctly Splash is not completely compatible with this chipset?

I've the same behaviour, 1215N with latest Nvidia Driver (266.58). Seems like the DXVA of the ION is not detected, only that of Intel 3150.

Optimus support is improveed but this is available with latest versions of PRO at the moment.
GPU detection improvements should be added in next Lite update.

How to use nvidia Optimus with any application

Just enable shell extension for right click and run app with chosen graphics processor. Done!
