What is the point of playing video from archives?
There's no sense in storing video in archives... Just because some strange sites distribute video in lot_of_parts archives on file exchange sites? Use torrents instead - it's much faster and easier)

If you have ever used a private torrent tracker, you would know most of their torrents are rared, if the files are big enough. There are many reasons why rar a video file can help. If you have a seed box and download with FTP, downloading multiple rars at once is much faster than downloading one avi. Also it insures the files wont get corrupted as easily. Let alone, a small size download.

Yep, i'm using lot of trackers - no one is raring video. Because it's just forbidden - there is no sense in it.
+:
- You can open file when it's downloading. It's just enough only 1 first part - so you can see media information.
- Hash check. If file is corrupted - right click -> hash check. And it will download only broken parts. Anyways it's really rare situation - it happen with me only once.
- You can download any file (you mean archiving smth like full season of something into one archive? o_O) with any priority you want. So you can set "High" on first couple series, "Normal" on next 5-8 and "Low" on rest.
- You can donwload it when you want. You even can copy file, that wasn't completly downloaded, to other computer - and resume download.
- You can see what are you downloading.
- It's just naturally.
-:
?

Rar's
+:
?
-:
- You have to download it fully. All parts. And then extract them all.
- You can't see what are you downloading - smth like troll torrents.
- Archive can be protected - omg.
- Any failure in ftp client work (i mean not just pausing... something like crashing) - you have to redownload it from the begging.

Some FTP clients like cuteFTP pro can divide 1 file into parts and download them in multiple streams.
AVI? I thought everybody is using H.264 + mkv/mp4 nowdays... Divx + avi is "a bit" old.

Really?
It can save only about 100KB on _some_ small videofiles - lol. On other - it will add those 100KB or even more.
Reason is simple: it can compressed only container header, that is stored as uncompressed text. The rest part is the video and audio, that already compressed - so archiving at least ineffective.

Hey vivan,

Interesting discussion here. Let me just first say, I agree I love it when files arent RARed, Thats why I love tvtorrents.com

I didn't know about cute ftp. Thats interesting. But ya, for some reason my internet can only do about 400 kbps per file but it can do 10 files at once at that same speed.

Ya size really isnt much of a difference, unless it isnt just a video/audio...

I quickly looked at some of the sites I use:
