.Mov files video not playing after windows update

Hey, today I installed the latest windows updates (which all seem to be security updates) and then tried to play a .MOV file that worked fine last night and it just shows a green screen with the audio playing like normal, then the program stops responding after 30 seconds or so.
I tried re-installing and then tried using DivX player, which worked but didn't play as smoothly as splash usually does.
Any suggestions?

EDIT: I've just realised that youtube and other videos in the browser (firefox and ie) now also have this same problem.
