smooth playback with GPU disabled

Hi, i have some 720p mkv movies that doesn`t load gpu acceleration, so my question is if i get smooth playback anyway, with or without Gpu enabled...

I have the Motion2 Ultra 1080p enabled.

Does that option has any affect on 720p mkvs?

Whats the difference between Motion2 in playback options (wich we can only change in during playback) and motion2 ultra 1080p?

final question -> do i get smooth playback with software decoding (no gpu acceleration) in 720p mkvs that cannot have gpu enabled, and do they use motion2 ultra 1080p??

Your question isn't specific and didn't provide enough information.

MKV is a container not a format. If you mean H.264 720p, so your GPU is so fast to play it without any usage.
But if you enable all post-processing in CATALYST, you should see some usage.
Best way is to enable GPU acceleration for better quality while CPU provides less quality.
You should see more CPU/RAM usage if you disable GPU acceleration.

Motion2 is different story. It makes 24/25/30fps progressive videos look like 60p, play smoother.
Motion2 Ultra 1080p is another option that doesn't downscale 1080p videos to 720p if you enable Motion2.
But it uses more CPU, so you'll need fast Core i3or a Quad-core CPU.

so i was testing and change OS to windows 7 and now every mkv H264 i have no matter how many ref frames has or bitrate, it opens with hardware acceleration, i mean i get the blue GPU icon permanent...

But the PQ qas uglyyyy in every movie. So i open catalyst options in quality and color and started to uncheck all and voilá, PQ amazing...

Can`t seem how ATI team blow off edge enhancement in windows 7... much worst than in XP

So i uncheck all settings in catalyst quality and color options (post processing) and let only:

Deinterlaced mode -> vector adaptive
Pulldown Detection checked
and input color space -> 16-235 (Sony TV) and 0-235 (Samsung monitor)

And every movie now has PQ awesome. And if i want more detail or color i change it on the player...

Windows XP uses DXVA1 which has limited support for playing HD videos with GPU acceleration.
I think Splash uses overlay video output in XP that results different quality.

Anyway, I'm using Catalyst 12.3 with default settings and it's good.
You have to benchmark if you decide to get best quality.
Spears & Munsil HD, Silicon Optix HD HQV 2.0 and so on.

ahhh, i have headaches when i see that calibrators

just one more question...

if i change light and detail boost to let me say 5 both, will the playback be affected with hardware acceleration ON?

I feel the detail and light boost better than catalyst marketing options, but i have no clue if the video playback will get affected somehow

I have 12.4 drivers

You can use them while Hardware acceleration without problem
